The Gucci spring/summer 2018 collection is just a dream for all of us eyewear fashionistas out here. With clear influences from the 70´s and with bedazzling the sh*t out of the frames. Gucci ones again shows that they know what they are doing.
But still, I can’t help to be a tiny bit heartbroken by the fact that all of these designs already have been seen on the independent eyewear scene for quite some time. Let me give you some background to how this works.
So, even if Gucci owns the designs and the brand, it is all made as a license brand from Kering Eyewear. They handle all the production and usually also the designs. And there are a few giants out there working in the same way and yes, the got cash! They can pretty much do anything and together with really strong brands they sometimes create just random collections. But like the case with Gucci they are really taking it to the next level.
Smaller, independent brands, usually works with tight budgets when creating their eyewear magic. So, when they in the past has created collections similar to this one, they might make a name for themselves but it is hard to reach the public and the luxury scene. That is why I am bit heartbroken because I have seen amazing designs like these before. Of course I am happy that the Gucci spring/summer 2018 collection makes a fashion statement with the eyewear collection, but still, I wish the sender had been one of my many friends in the independent scene. No hating. Just loving.
